Comic Themed Dice Bags

The Plan
I've been wanting to do themed dice bags for awhile and the San Diego Comic-Con Art Show 2015 was the perfect opportunity to finally take that next step.  While I have a enough themed ideas to last for the next several years, I decided to focus on just DC Comics and Marvel characters for this show.

It turns out that designing for specific characters is a lot of fun.  I came up with designs for 46 different characters - some characters even have multiple designs - and decided to source materials for 38 of them.  Once the linings arrived, I narrowed it down even further to 22 for the 2015 Art Show.  I continued making them, designed a few more, and will be returning to the Art Show in 2017.

What Makes These Different
Each bag I make tends to be one of a kind but I don't always guarantee that it will be.  If someone really likes a bag that I've already sold and I can find the materials again, I'll make it.  I use the fabrics and fonts again but not in the same combination unless specifically asked to.

These bags are guaranteed to be one of a kind.  The outer fabric(s) and thread color were chosen to reflect the look of each comic book character.  The fonts were also chosen for each character and most of them were digitized specifically for this project.  The lining images were created on the computer and then sent to Spoonflower to be printed on polyester silky faille fabric.  These bags, with their combination of fabrics and thread, will not be made again.

Otherwise, these bags are made in the exact same way as my normal bags.  The small d12 bags and the d20 bags are made from a softer interfacing than the large d12 bags but are still sturdy enough to maintain their shape.  The large d12 bags are made from a much sturdier interfacing and are fairly tank-like in comparison to my first d12 bag.  All bags close with a magnetic snap near the 12 or 20.  All bags also feature an interior drawstring bag. This allows dice and other objects to stay securely inside the bag even if the magnetic snap pops open. The bag can also be tucked out of the way and not used but it is sewn in place so can't be removed entirely.

Since the bags are an unusual shape, measurements are approximate (especially the metric, I use imperial so the metric numbers are thanks to Google).

Storage
The bags shouldn't be stored in direct sunlight or where it might get hot.  Direct sunlight is never good for fabric as it can cause fading.  Heat, like being kept in a car on a hot day, can damage the inner materials used to make the bag stiff.  The smaller bags use two layers fused together and heat can weaken that bond.  The large bags use a heat activated material and can droop when re-activated (I haven't seen this happening but I've heard reports from others who use the material).

Care
The fabrics have been treated to prevent water-spotting (meaning that it's either been prewashed or dunked in water - lesson learned from my first bag made from taffeta) so it should be okay if it gets a little wet but it would be best to avoid it.  If the bag does get soiled, spot cleaning would be best.  You can also try Scotchguard or some similar treatment if you want but it might discolor the fabrics.  I haven't used any stain prevention treatment with my personal bags so I can't recommend a particular brand.

Hulk

This bag is made from a green cotton sateen with purple rayon embroidery thread for the upper and purple/black shot taffeta with green rayon embroidery thread for the bottom. The 6 and 9 use the symbol for gamma radiation. The lining uses pictures of atoms tiled to create an allover design. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Captain America
This bag is made from a blue rayon twill with red and white rayon embroidery thread. The 6 and 9 use a white star. The lining is red and white striped with a row of white stars on blue. The lid and bottom features Cap's shield design. It is closed with a silver magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Red Skull

This bag is made from a red-orange and black shot taffeta fabric with black metallic embroidery thread. The lining features yellow/gold and orange rays with airplane and tank silhouettes similar to a propaganda poster. It is closed with an antique brass magnetic snap near the handle.


Iron Man

This bag is made from a dark red shimmery fabric with metallic gold embroidery thread and white rayon embroidery thread for the 6 and 9 dots.  The lining of the bag is designed to look like an arc reactor with "Proof that Tony Stark has a heart" running around the inside.  It is closed with a silver magnetic snap near the handle.


Thor

This bag is made from a navy and black shot taffeta with dark red rayon embroidery thread and gunmetal metallic embroidery thread.  The lining shows Thor's red cape with lightning and Mjolnir.  It is closed with a silver magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Black Widow

This bag is made from a black taffeta with black rayon embroidery thread and red rayon embroidery thread for the hourglasses for the 6 and 9.  The lining is red with the hourglass symbol and black widow spider.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Loki

This bag is made from a green and black shot taffeta with metallic gold embroidery thread.  Loki's helmet is embroidered for the 6 and 9.  The lining is Loki's helmet tiled in gold on green.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Spider-Man

This bag is made from a red satin fabric with black and blue rayon embroidery thread.  The black spiderweb is embroidered on with black spiders for the 6 and 9.  The lining is NYC's skyline with a background of cameras.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Venom

This bag is made from black cotton sateen fabric with white rayon embroidery thread. The lining is a white and black tendril design. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Spider-Gwen

This bag is made from white and black taffeta with white, black, and teal rayon embroidery thread. The lining features a web pattern in white and teal on a pink background. It is closed with a nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Captain Marvel

This bag is made from red and navy cotton sateen with metallic gold embroidery thread. The lining features space with Captain Marvel's red sash. It is closed with a gold-tone magnetic snap.


Beast

This bag is made from a wonderfully soft blue minky fabric with yellow rayon embroidery thread.  The X symbol is used for the 6 and 9 in red and blue rayon embroidery thread.  The lining is rows of books overlaid with chalkboard scientific scribblings.  It is closed with an antique brass magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Rogue

This bag is made from yellow and green satin fabric with brown leather appliqued with brown rayon embroidery thread.  Black rayon embroidery thread is used for the 6, 9 and 12.  The lining uses a leather look print with the red X symbol.  It is closed with an antique brass magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Storm

This bag is made from a black fabric with reflective threads woven in.  The numbers are embroidered with white rayon embroidery thread and gold metallic embroidery thread for the 6 and 9.  The lining uses a lightning design over a purple cloudy background.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Phoenix

This bag is made from a green and yellow shot taffeta fabric with gold rayon embroidery thread.  The lining uses a stylized phoenix design in flames on white.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap near the handle.


Cyclops

This bag is made from a blue taffeta with yellow rayon embroidery thread. The X symbol is used for the 6 and 9 in red and black rayon embroidery thread. The lining features his visor and red energy blast. It is closed with a gold-tone magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Gambit

This bag is made from brown suedecloth with blue and magenta rayon embroidery thread. The lining features four aces with magenta energy. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Wolverine

This bag is made from a yellow-gold and white shot taffeta fabric with blue, red, and black rayon embroidery thread. This lining features a cigar and smoke design. It is closed with an antique brass magnetic snap near the handle.


Emma Frost

This bag is made from a white shantung fabric with white rayon embroidery thread. The lining features a diamond jewel-like design in mostly blue tones. It is closed with a nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Mystique

This bag is made from a bright blue and black shot taffeta fabric with red, white, and black rayon embroidery thread. The lining features a tiled skull pattern. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Joker

This bag is made from a purple shimmer fabric with green rayon embroidery thread and the 6 and 9 use red rayon embroidery thread.  The lining is green and purple stripes with yellow and red 'HA's overlaid.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.

Harley Quinn

This bag is made from red and black satin fabric with red and black rayon embroidery thread and white rayon embroidery thread for the 6 and 9 dots.  The 3 is embroidered with Harley's signature diamond.  The lining is a white background with red hearts and Mr. J.  The ribbon for the inner bag also continue the parti-color look.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Poison Ivy

This bag is made from an olive green and red shot taffeta fabric with dark red and olive rayon embroidery thread with red rayon embroidery thread used for the swak on the 6 and 9.  The lining uses shades of olive and green with a red swak.  It is closed with an antique brass magnetic snap near the handle.


Catwoman

This bag is made from black shiny fabric with silver metallic embroidery thread and Swarovski rhinestones for the 6 and 9. The lining features scattered diamonds and diamond jewelry. It is closed with a nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Robin

This bag is made from a red satin fabric with yellow and green rayon embroidery thread.  Yellow and black rayon embroidery thread is used for the R symbol on the 6 and 9.  The lining is red with the R symbol for the lid and bottom with a yellow inner bag that also has the R symbol.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Batgirl

This bag is made from a purple taffeta fabric with yellow rayon embroidery thread. The lining features several colorful iconic bat-fight words on a black background. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Batman

This bag is made from a grey taffeta fabric with black rayon embroidery thread and yellow rayon embroidery thread for the bat symbols on the 6 and 9.  The lining is a grey cloudy sky with bats and the bat signal.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Wonder Woman

This bag is made from red satin and blue faille fabric with gold metallic and white rayon embroidery thread.  The 6 also has red rayon embroidery thread for its star.  Gold cord is stitched to the outside between the red and blue.  The lining is a red, white and blue design with Wonder Woman's tiara and gold cord.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Flash
This bag is made from a red shimmery fabric and yellow rayon embroidery thread with white and black rayon embroidery thread also being used for the Flash symbol on the 6 and 9.  The lining is shades of red and yellow streaks.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap near the handle.


Green Lantern

This bag is made from green and black satin fabric with white rayon embroidery thread and black and green rayon embroidery thread used for the Green Lantern symbol on the 6 and 9.  The lining is the Green Lantern symbol tiled.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Martian Manhunter

This bag is made from a green and black shot taffeta fabric with blue and red rayon embroidery thread and metallic gold embroidery thread for the 6 and 9 dots.  The lining is blue with red and green.  It is closed with a gold magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Huntress

This bag is made from purple, black, and white taffeta fabric with white rayon embroidery thread. The lining features crossbows and purple smoke. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Zatanna

This bag is made from white and black shimmer fabric with gold metallic embroidery thread. The lining features a gold swirl design on a black background. It is closed with a gold-tone magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Green Arrow

This bag is made from a green dull satin fabric with green polyester embroidery thread. The font is created from arrows and the 20 is a targer rather than the number. The lining features a quiver of arrows and a target. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Deathstroke

This bag is made from blue shimmery fabric with orange rayon embroidery thread. The lining features a blue and orange split design. It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


Superman

This bag is made from a blue faille fabric with yellow satin appliqued on with red rayon embroidery thread.  The lining uses pictures of front pages from The Daily Planet.  It is closed with a silver magnetic snap at the top point of the 12.


General Zod

This bag is made from a silver shimmery fabric with red rayon embroidery thread and red rayon embroidery thread for the 6 and 9 dots.  The lining is white with 'Kneel' in a Kryptonite font tiled in light grey for the background and 'KNEEL' in black overlaid with accents of red.  It is closed with a black nickel magnetic snap near the handle.


Raven

This bag is made from a navy shimmer fabric with black and gold metallic embroidery thread. The lining features clouds of purple smoke with navy fabric and a gold belt design. It is closed with a gold-tone magnetic snap near the handle.


Beast Boy

This bag is made from a green taffeta fabric with dark green rayon embroidery thread. The lining features multiple green toned animals and paw prints on a white background. It is closed with a nickel magnetic snap near the handle.
